It’s already the fourth reunion. Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara talk about reuniting for the first time in 9 years at the drama’s press conference!
On the afternoon of the 12th of April, the production presentation of tvN’s new Monday-Tuesday drama “Family” (written by Jung Yoo-sun, directed by Jang Jung Do) was held online. In attendance were PD Jang Jung Do and actors Jang Hyuk, Jang Nara, Chae Jung An, and kim nam hee.
“‘Family’ is the fourth work in which Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara have appeared together in 9 years. The two worked together on ‘Successful Story of a Bright Girl,’ ‘Fated to Love You,’ and ‘2014 Drama Festival – Goodbye, Old Days.’
In the drama, Jang Hyuk plays a black agent for the National Intelligence Service disguised as a trading company manager, but at home, he is a low-ranking husband named Kwon Do-hoon. Jang Nara plays Kang Yoo-ra, a housewife and the top-ranked member of the household, known as ‘Powerful Breather’ (a master who hides their true strength), with a rank of 9.
Director Jang Jeong-do explained why he cast Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara. He said, “I have liked Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara since I was young. I grew up watching their acting, and they have been active in the industry for a long time,” and added that he wanted to see the two of them work together.
Director Jang Jeong-do also said, “Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara are great on set. They understand each other with just a glance, and I haven’t needed more than two takes with them. Ideas just flow, and I don’t need to direct them separately.”
Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara also shared their thoughts on reuniting. Jang Hyuk said, “I have been watching Jang Nara since her 20s and 30s. I think the term ‘aging like fine wine’ is accurate. I don’t have to worry about how she will respond to me. No matter what I do, she handles it all. Even if it’s a romantic comedy, it’s not easy to settle down if you’re too flighty. But with her, it’s easy to settle down and balance the realistic parts.”
Jang Nara said, “Actually, I found the drama interesting, and I decided to do it because I thought Jang Hyuk would be my co-star.” She added, “I haven’t talked to (Jang Hyuk) sunbae a lot, but he makes me feel comfortable and takes care of everything I miss. He once said, ‘Were we not brothers in our past lives?’ I think that’s really true. If he suggests working together again, I’ll happily do it.”
Upon hearing this, Jang Hyuk joked, “Next time, let’s meet in a historical drama.”
