The Red Sleeve” will not be ending with 16 episodes as originally planned.

On December 9, a news outlet reported that “The Red Sleeve” will end with 17 episodes instead of the originally planned 16.

Later, a source from “The Red Sleeve” told news outlets that a one-episode extension. The drama source says the one-episode extension will serve for a successful conclusion to the drama and repay the viewers for their support for a more ‘solid story and ending.’

The source also stated the production team and the cast will continue to do their best until the end to meet viewers’ expectations.

“The Red Sleeve” is a historical drama about the romance between crown prince Yi San (Junho), who becomes emperor, and the strong-willed court lady Seong Deok Im (Lee Se Young).

The drama started out with 5% in ratings but has been steadily climbing up the ratings ladder, it recently surpassed the 10% ratings mark becoming the first MBC min-series in nearly three years to do.

My personal thoughts- written by Jass K.

I don’t know how to feel about that but I totally understand the decision.

I’ve been enjoying “The Red Sleeve” but the drama already has a noticeable amount of filler scenes, so an added episode might lead to the plot getting diluted even more.

Since the drama is a massive success for MBC and something they haven’t seen in nearly 3 years, the decision makes even more sense if you look at it from that lens.

“The Red Sleeve” is indeed based on real stories and the conclusion of that is utterly heartbreaking so I don’t know what this might mean for the drama. We shall see how it pans out.
