Dramafever Streaming Service Shuts Down

Published Categorized as K-Dramas and K-Movies

After serving the kdrama and jdrama community for the past nine years, streaming service Dramafever is officially shutting down.

It was one of the most prominent streaming services that delivered Korean, Japanese and much more to the world with English subtitles.

It opened back on August 6, 2009 and slowly but steadily became one of the biggest streaming sites for kdramas.

On October 16, 2018, Dramafever shocked fans with one final message to its subscribers, the message reads,

“Thank you for nine great years

As of October 16, DramaFever has been shut down.

For nine years, DramaFever offered a place for streaming the best Korean, Chinese and Japanese dramas on-demand, straight to your device. We appreciate the passion of our fans and it’s been a privilege to deliver you this content.

While this decision is difficult, there are a variety of business reasons that have led to this conclusion. We appreciate each and every one of our fans and their passion for the content DramaFever was able to bring into your lives.

We’d like to take this time to extend our thanks and gratitude to you, our loyal subscribers. We’ll be issuing refunds as applicable, and subscribers will receive an email from us with details in the coming days.

The DramaFever Team”

DramaFever was acquired by Warner Bros. in 2016 from Japan’s SoftBank Group and they were the ones who decided to shut it down.

Variety dived in to the real reason why the streaming service had to shut down, you can read more about it here.

Despite DramaFever being out of the picture there are still places you can watch your favorite kdramas such as Viki, Netflix (some not all), Gooddrama, kissasian and much more.

How do you feel about the news?

Whats your reaction to this article?

  1. So where can I watch dramas now? Kocowa isn’t available on fire stick, do you know where I can watch dramas on fire stick, other than viki, Hulu, Netflix and amazon

  2. It is very very sad that Dramafever was shut down . I enjoyed watching the program here in America along with several other of my co-workers and friends. The company that acutally had the business shut really didn’t think or care about the fan of the websites. They displayed cold heart towards the fans who enjoyed the shows and to the subscribers of the network. Where they given the opportunity to correct mistake that they made. Where the fans or the subscriber given the opportunity to step of to the plate and help the network to raise funds toward the financial challenges they were experiencing? To just shut it down showed me that this company only cares about the bottom line their pocket books. I am getting angry as I continue to write this so, I better quit while I am not putting down in writing my emotional feeling about the bank that shut them down.
Everyone who reads this and knows the bank should not do business with them. I work at a hospital that is all over the USA and we are talking.

  3. Seriously devastated! Dramafever was reliable & family friendly in their translations & entertainment. My daughter is so excited to learn about Asiain culture & has started to study Chinese. We started watching Dramafever this summer to help supplement her reading fluency practice, since we read the English subtitles.
I can piecemeal some of the new Dramas on other spots but seriously upset I have to find my regular go to’s on DVD now because no one owns the rights to them any more. 🙁

  4. I’m very upset that Dramafever has shutdown… devastated would be more politically correct. I have made many friends from numerous cultures whom share a common interest in Dramafever programming. I have studied the Korean culture in all aspects and found the people very, very interesting. I would like to rekindle that entertainment experience. I see a lot of me in their thoughts and philosophical points of view even though they’re on the other side of the world. Who knew??? We have so much in common. What a honor and relief… Please come back… I’ve heard a lot of political controversy going back and forth. Yes I did feel as if would become a potential problem and I was right. All in all…I want Dramafever back…
