A ‘inevitable’ fantasy romance that crosses between past and present unfolds. The cast of the highly anticipated JTBC drama “Destined With You” talked about the drama and more at its press conference.

On the 23rd of August, the press conference of JTBC’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama “Destined With You” was held. Director Nam Ki-hoon and Jo Bo Ah, Rowoon, Ha Joon, and Yura attended the event.

“Destined With You” is a work that portrays the inevitable romance between Lee Hong-jo (played by Jo Bo Ah), a low-ranking civil servant who obtains a sealed book that had been sealed for over 300 years, and Jang Shin-yoo (played by Rowoon), a lawyer who becomes a sacrifice for that book. The drama was directed by Nam Ki-hoon, who directed ‘Kiss Six Sense,’ ‘Voice 3,’ ‘Tunnel,’ and written by Noh Ji-sul, who wrote ‘100 Days My Prince.’

Director Nam Ki-hoon said, “I received the first script around the end of last year. I read it non-stop from the first page to the last. It feels like I chose this work inevitably and fatefully.”

Jo Bo Ah, who plays Lee Hong-jo, a civil servant in a problem-solving unit in the local government, and the one who will break Jang Shin-yoo’s curse, said, “The reason I chose the work for the first time is that I read the script so interestingly up to the fourth part. The character was lovely and charming. Rather than having the feeling of creating an acting by giving a positive charm, I had the ambition to express it more interestingly by comparing it a lot with the human Jo Bo Ah’s appearance,” she said. “Since it was done through pre-production, I’m a bit less nervous. I’m also looking forward to it because everyone has worked hard for the past 7 months.”

When asked about the difference from the similar fantasy genre ‘Tale of the Nine-Tailed Fox,’ Jo Bo Ah said, “The characters themselves are very different. In ‘Tale of the Nine-Tailed Fox,’ the character was strong and solid. In ‘Destined With You,’ it’s lovely and lively. I put myself 200% into it.”

Rowoon plays the role of cursed ace lawyer Jang Shin-yoo. He said, “The script was really well-written. The characters I’ve portrayed in previous works were like puppies, so I wanted to express loneliness. I was curious about what expressions would come out, and (the drama) seems to have come out well,” explaining his choice.

He continued, “The character is someone who doesn’t want to keep loved ones around due to the curse of not knowing when they will die. The reason for his prickliness comes from here. I lost about 8kg of weight as well.”

Rowoon also mentioned that the atmosphere on set was very good, saying, “Ratings are important, but what remains is more important. Good teamwork on set is absolutely crucial for a good production. The director led the atmosphere on set very well.”

Ha Joon plays the role of Kwon Jae-kyung, a policy adviser in charge of the market and the topic of attention of all the people at the Onju City Hall. Ha Joon introduced his character, saying, “He looks perfect and cool on the outside, but he’s a person who wonders if he can be greedy for the happiness he wants. I think I’m an unattractive ‘ordinary’ person. In the work, the character is in charge of the visuals. That’s why I chose it. When else will I get to be in charge of visuals?” he added jokingly.

Yura plays Yoon Na-yeon, an interior designer who is the lover of Jang Shin-yoo and is entangled in a relationship with Lee Hong-jo. Yura explained, “I’m the type of person who wants to have everything I want. If I can’t have it, it boils up. I’m also very conscious of how others see me. Seeing Shin-yoo’s interest in Hong-jo, she gradually becomes unable to endure it.”

She continued, “Among the works I’ve done, this was probably the one I felt least nervous about. My character in this work has the most emotional changes. I was comfortable filming because (Rowoon) allowed me to do whatever I wanted on set.”

Director Nam Ki-hoon confidently said, “I’m not burdened by ratings. I’m confident. As you watch, I think it will inevitably seep into you. We’re dreaming of a prize vacation.”

“Destined With You” premiered on the 23rd at 10:30 PM.
