Actor Choi Woo Shik shared his efforts and thoughts on “A Killer Paradox.”

On the 14th of February, Choi Woo Shik discussed various aspects of the Netflix original series ‘A Killer Paradox’ during an interview held at a cafe in Seoul’s Jongno-gu. ‘A Killer Paradox’ tells the story of an ordinary man who accidentally starts committing murders and the detective relentlessly pursuing him. Choi Woo Shik played the role of Lee Tang, a university student who awakens the ability to discern villains after committing an accidental murder.

Choi Woo Shik stated, “I received many messages from people around me after the release. More messages came than during ‘That Year, We’ did. It’s been a long time since I greeted people with a work, and the reactions are interesting. I feel good.”

Choi Woo Shik underwent a drastic transformation in ‘A Killer Paradox,’ from a dry-eyed expression to portraying murder scenes. Not only that, but he also attempted to bulk up for the role of the killer Tang.

“Things didn’t change easily,” he said, reminiscing about that time. “I kept working out back then. In the original work, Tang comes out like a complete human weapon in a few months. It sounds like an excuse, but I was stressed about bulking up, so I thought I should show him (Tang) differently. After that, I tried not to stress about it.”

He also confessed to stopping the bulking process. “It might not have looked like it, but ‘A Killer Paradox’ was my heaviest weight in life. I had a lot of concerns because my face is the type that gains weight easily. As I gained weight, my face got puffy. However, that face didn’t seem to match the difficult expression of post-awakening Tang. I focused more on my face and thought it would be right to lose weight, so I stopped bulking up,” he added.

He succeeded in his image transformation through eyebrow bleaching. “The nose and eyebrows are important for impressions. People doubted whether I could bleach my eyebrows. But when I did, everyone said it looked good.”

Tang undergoes a transformation from an utterly ordinary university student to a serial killer in the drama. Choi Woo Shik explained, “This friend experiences murder, although it’s accidental. I thought about things that could actually happen. I didn’t want to express it darkly for no reason. I only thought about the occasions that would make me have the mindset that if I really killed someone and had to deal with the person who got suspicious after the murder.”

Rather than following the law, Tang takes matters into his own hands by eliminating criminals. Choi Woo Shik expressed his thoughts on whether murder is justified. “I kept questioning whether murder is justified during the shoot. While playing Tang, I felt ‘not all murders are unjustifiable.'”

‘A Killer Paradox’ is available on Netflix for streaming.
