Seo In Guk’s Upcoming KBS Drama “Café Minamdang” is under fire.

On June 7, it was revealed that the Broadcast Staff Branch of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions will be holding a public protest outside KBS’s building denouncing the production of “Café Minamdang.”

According to the confederation, several staff members were allegedly fired after requesting the company to abide by Korea’s Fair Labor Standards Act. About 30 employees were allegedly fired.

According to Article 53, companies may extend the work hours by up to 12 a week with mutual agreement. The former employees claim they have been overworked for the past couple of months with no proper breaks.

The former employees allege that when the production company of “Café Minamdang” was asked to comply with this article, the production company claimed the staff members on set are ‘not laborers’ and thus, don’t apply for the act in question.

As a result, the Confederation will be protesting at KBS’s building. The drama is jointly produced by People Story Company and Monster Union.

They claim that the drama pushed forward with filming despite knowing their actions were illegal. In the protest, they will demand KBS postpones the drama until the issue is resolved and for KBS to also abide by the Fair Labor Standards Act.

“Café Minamdang” is led by Seo In Guk, Oh Yeon Seo and more. It is set to air later this June.
