There is currently an ongoing controversy regarding the song “SUN” composed for “My Teen Girl,” an audition show which wrapped up last night.
Both (G)I-DLE’s Soyeon and Cube Entertainment have released statements addressing the recent plagiarism controversy involving “SUN,” a song composed for “My Teen Girl” By Soyeon.
Cube Entertainment has come out with a personal statement to apologize and attempt to explain the situation, their explanation however, contradicts KQ’s statement to a degree. They stated,
“First, we bow our heads and apologize for causing controversy with the release of “SUN.”
Immediately after the broadcast, we became aware of the similarities of some melodies through monitoring, and the artist directly delivered the situation to the composer and apologized.
In the process, we decided that the credit revision should be taken for granted as much as we acknowledge the similarity between the songs, thus, Soyeon consulted with the composer and requested a credit revision through the production company. An hour before the release, the composer’s agency opposed the addition of credit, and requested a re-modification through the production company, but it was released without it being reflected.
Once again, we apologize for the situation in which the credits were modified without no specific consultation with the composer’s agency, and we will do our best to prevent this from happening in the future.”
This was followed by a personal apology and admission by Soyeon herself, who wrote, “I belatedly recognized the partial melody similar of ‘SUN,’ the final song from ‘my teenage girl.’ Regarding the similarities raised after the broadcast concluded, I thought it would only be appropriate to apologize for even the partial similarity, so I informed the original composer of the song about the situation and apologized.’
She also extended her apology to the composer, artist, and the fans and promised to pay more attention in the future.

The issue began when the finale aired, One of the contestants’ groups performed a song “SUN,” which is composed by (G)I-DLE’s Jeon Soyeon. She is a mentor on the show.
Fans of ATEEZ soon noticed just how similar the song was to ATEEZ’s “Wave,” specifically its chorus. Thus, they began emailing KQ Entertainment about the issue to confirm the facts.
As the issue heated up, fans noticed the song credits suddenly changed on Bugs, a Korean music streaming platform, to include Eden-ary, the producing team of KQ Entertainment.
Later, KQ Entertainment issued a response to state that they’ve noticed the similarities between the songs through emails. They added,
“The agency reviewed the information and found out that in the credits for the song “SUN,” the agency’s producing team, Eden-ary, was listed there.
We would like to clarify that there were no prior discussion about this with Eden-ary or with us, the agency.”
They wrapped up their statement asking for the work of the creators to be respected and for false speculations to stop.
