BTS V Becomes The First Korean Solo Artist In 23 Years To Sell 2 Million Album Copies In The 1st Week

BTS‘s V has become the first solo artist to sell 2 million copies in the history of the Hanteo Chart, and has achieved the title of ‘Double Million Seller’.

The last time a solo artist recorded sales of over 2 million copies was in 2000 with Cho Sung Mo’s ‘Let Me Love’, making it a 23-year gap.

V’s first solo album ‘Layover’ was simultaneously released worldwide on the 8th of this month.

According to the sales aggregation site Hanteo Chart, V’s ‘Layover’ surpassed 1 million copies in just 3 hours after its release, making it a super-fast million seller.

By 6:10 PM, it had surpassed a total of 1.5 million copies sold, achieving the highest first-day sales record for a solo artist in Korean history, just 5 hours after its release.

As of 12:13 PM on the 13th, ‘Layover’ surpassed the long-awaited milestone of 2 million copies, setting a record as the first solo artist to achieve ‘Double Million Seller’ since Hanteo Chart began compiling data.

V said, “I made a lot of effort to remove the flashy elements and show my true colors as a person. I put everything I like and do well into this album.”
