The drama “Queen Of Tears” released unaired scenes, leading viewers to express disappointment.
tvN aired special episodes on the 4th and 5th of May for “Queen Of Tears”. The special episodes were broadcasted to soothe the disappointment of fans following the end of ‘Queen of Tears’, which achieved the highest viewership rating of 24.9% (according to Nielsen Korea nationwide).
The special episode included various stories, ranging from the first script reading of the ‘Queen of Tears’ cast to scenes personally chosen by the actors. It aimed to prolong the lingering emotions of drama fans.
Among them, unaired scenes were revealed on the broadcast on the 5th. Those scenes depicted the love and affection between Baek Hyun-woo (played by Kim Soo Hyun) and Hong Ha-in (played by Kim Ji Won) during their honeymoon trip in Germany.
In the original broadcast of ‘Queen of Tears’, the honeymoon scenes of the couple passed by quickly in short cuts. However, the scenes depicting their affection were deleted, leaving viewers feeling disappointed. As a response, the production team of ‘Queen of Tears’ released a compilation of unaired kiss scenes from the couple’s honeymoon trip in Germany through the special episode. It included heartwarming moments of Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won, allowing viewers to deeply relate to their narrative.
Although ‘Queen of Tears’ was successful in terms of popularity, it received criticism for a weak and lacking narrative development in the later part of the drama. Rather than focusing on the narrative of Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won, conflicts became dominant, increasing the fatigue and lowering the immersion of viewers. In particular, the lack of affection scenes, known as the ‘mutual kiss scenes’ between Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won, was a source of disappointment as there was only one such scene in the 16th episode.
The unaired kiss scene in Germany, which was released this time, was also removed from the original broadcast. As a result, viewers are showing reactions such as “If they had ended the drama with this kiss scene as an epilogue, it would have been a perfect ending” and “What’s the meaning of releasing the drama’s kiss scene in a special episode, instead of the original broadcast?”
