Belift Lab, a subsidiary of HYBE and the agency for groups ILLIT, has filed a lawsuit against Min Hee Jin accusing her of obstruction of business and defamation.
On the 22nd of May, Belift Lab officially announced, “We have filed a lawsuit against Min Hee Jin, who has caused damage by unilaterally claiming false facts and obstructing our company and our artists, on charges of obstruction of business and defamation.”
They further stated, “Regarding Min Hee Jin’s allegations of plagiarism against our artist, ILLIT, we clearly state that it is not true. Our company has submitted evidence to the judicial institution that proves the allegations to be false, and we will diligently uncover the truth through proper legal procedures, even if it takes some time.”
Belift Lab also expressed their disappointment, saying, “The determination of whether there is plagiarism in intellectual property should be made based on reasonable criteria and procedures, not unilateral and distorted interpretations. Nevertheless, it is regrettable that the efforts and achievements of our artists and members are being denigrated by indiscriminate speculation and false facts.”
They added, “Although this issue is unrelated to ILLIT, the members of ILLIT are suffering from severe levels of malicious comments, ridicule, and personal attacks. We earnestly request that these indiscriminate insults, malicious defamation, spreading of false facts, and defamation of character against our artists cease.”
Meanwhile, Min Hee Jin, the CEO of Min Hee Jin and BELIFT LAB, has been in conflict with the parent company HYBE. In particular, she has claimed that ILLIT, the rookie girl group under Belift Lab, copied several aspects of NewJeans, another label under HYBE, and has been reportedly notified of her removal from the position.
