Media personality Dex has expressed his thoughts calmly regarding the controversy surrounding his recommendation of the controversial Japanese series “Made In Abyss.”

On the afternoon of the 23rd of November, MBC held a press conference for the new variety program ‘Born to Travel the World’ season 3, Dex was among the attendees.

‘Born to Travel the World’ is a variety program that follows the travel bucket list of Gian84, a popular webtoon artist and broadcaster known as the “man who was born to live.” Dex is the youngest member of the ‘Born to Travel the World’ series.

Dex has been caught up in controversy recently. He has been criticized for introducing and recommending the Japanese anime “Made in Abyss” on his personal YouTube channel, the anime and original manga contains scenes of young children’s nudity, sexual violence, and human experimentation, and is considered to have a pedophilic tendency. Some argue that “Made in Abyss” is a story about a girl named Riko who goes on an adventure to excavate relics and has formed a cult following with its cute art style, so Dex was simply recommending the work. However, there have also been voices demanding Dex to take responsibility for his statements, given his recent popularity.

During the press conference for “World Tour 3,” there was also a direct question asking for Dex’s opinion on this issue. As he is considered a “trend,” it was also a question about his thoughts on the inevitable attention and fame. Kim Ji-woo, the PD, first took the microphone to protect the cast members and apologized, saying, “I’m sorry, but this is a place for the program, so I hope we can talk about the program as much as possible. This question seems difficult for the cast members to answer right now. I apologize.” MC Jang Do-yeon also stepped in, saying, “It’s a place for the program,” and supported Kim Ji-woo PD.

However, Dex did not avoid controversy. He calmly said, “Since you asked the question, I will answer it sincerely. I don’t think you need to worry too much. I have always lived my life with a clear focus. It seems clear to me, but I have realized that it can be seen as a problem by others. Everyone has lived their own life and experienced different things, so I think this issue arises from different perspectives. Nevertheless, I will continue to maintain my focus and try to balance things well without causing concerns.”

Many other idols have also been criticized for either watching or recommending the anime.
