After nearly two months of absence for the Wednesday-Thursday time slot, JTBC premiered the new drama “Frankly Speaking” last night, let us discuss the premiere!

Note: this article is a first-impression review, it doesn’t mean this is the writer’s final thoughts on the drama. This is a spoiler review.

The drama had a very interesting premise, albeit familiar. Our male lead is nice and all-around perfect BUT suddenly, he speaks his mind, which we know is a recipe for disaster. So, how will he handle the consequences of being honest?

I found the premiere episodes to be very nice. They were a good introduction to whats about to happen without feeling too much. I liked the introductions style for the characters for the most part too.

It seems his issue with honesty and his solution somehow either involves On Woo-Joo’s touch or the milk, they seem to highlight it a lot, I don’t know if it’s a PL or just an important prop. The sneeze is also somehow involved, this should be fun.

In Korean society, and honestly everywhere else, I’d assume what he’s done would be enough to end his career and exile him, but this is kdrama land so let us see how it goes. It’ll be interesting to see how the screenwriter plans on digging him out of the mess he’s put himself in, even though he’s in the right because these people are either downright disrespectful or in the wrong.

This drama will be 12 episodes long and is written by a screenwriter whom I couldn’t find information about. It turns out that this is their debut project according to Namu Wiki… which could be interesting depending on the direction they choose to take the script in.

I can get a feel for what is about to happen, but I am generally optimistic that there is something more to it. Go Kyung Pyo chooses interesting characters and is an amazing actor who I feel doesn’t quite get the praise he deserves. His take on the character is amazing too. The character gives off that loser energy deep down inside while simultaneously also giving off an aura of professionalism and hard work, it’s a difficult balance, that’s for sure.

He pulls it off immensely well. His chemistry with Han Na is also good thus far. Han Na is doing a great job too.

This project also marks Joo Jong-Hyuk 1st lead role in his entire career since his 2022 breakout role in “Extraordinary Attorney Woo.” It’ll be interesting watching him in this drama and seeing more of his acting.

Overall, I liked it and I have hopes for this one. I wouldn’t say it has me on the edge of my seat, but I don’t think that’s the intent either. I’ll probably let more episodes accumulate before binging.

So, have you guys seen the premiere yet? thoughts?
