Jang Ki Yong has come back with the new drama “The Atypical Family.”

The production presentation for JTBC’s new weekend drama “The Atypical Family” (written by Ju Hwa-mi, directed by Jo Hyun-tak) was held on the 2nd of May afternoon at Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. Actors Jang Ki Yong, Chun Woo Hee, Claudia Kim, Park So Yi, and director Jo Hyun-tak attended the event.

During the event, director Jo Hyun-tak first revealed, “‘The Atypical Family’ starts with struggling to regain the superpowers one had in the past. The struggles are comical, poignant, and desperate, and it encompasses various genres as it also tells a love story.”

“The Atypical Family” is a fantasy romance about a returning male lead (played by Jang Ki Yong) with unique abilities finally saving the woman of his destiny, Do Dahe (played by Chun Woo Hee), who no one else could save.

Jang Ki Yong made a comeback after about 3 years through “The Atypical Family”. Playing the role of a returning main character who lost his time-slipping ability due to depression in the drama, he said, “Looking back at my 20s, it passed busy. During the one year and six months hiatus, I had a time to rest.” He continued, “It was a time I felt was necessary, and after finishing my military service, I had a sense of peace in my heart when preparing for my comeback work. Sometimes, I prepared it with a relaxed mind, feeling peace in my heart.”

He said, “First of all, the script was interesting. It was unique and amusing to have family members with superpowers.” He added, “It wasn’t easy to play the role of a father character. I didn’t want to be trapped in the father character, and I thought about how I could sincerely approach the audience.”

Park So Yi, who played the role of Bok In-na, the daughter of Jang Ki Yong’s character, said, “Many people said I resembled Jang Ki Yong’s character when we first started filming. It made me feel good.” She added, “Jang Ki Yong’s dad treated me kindly and well. He even prepared a birthday gift for me when filming ended, so he truly felt like a dad.”

Meanwhile, “The Atypical Family” will premiere on the 4th at 10:30 PM.
