“Marry My Husband” is officially the first kdrama to air in 2024, led by Park Min Young, Na In Woo, Lee Yi Kyung, Song Ha Yoon, and Lee Ki Kwang, so how well did the premiere do?

Note: this article is a first-impression review, it doesn’t mean this is the writer’s final thoughts on the drama. This is a spoiler review.

Despite being a bit cringy at times, it was an enjoyable irritating watching experience.

Its based on a webtoon of the same title and ran for a total of 181 episodes. It was very successful and had events that many compare to Kim Soon Ok’s writing, i.e. in terms of craziness and the fast-paced progression of the plot.

The premiere episodes follow every possible trope in kdrama land for such said drama types, it comes at no surprise, in episode 1 it was a bit over the top especially with just how many times Kang Ji-Won required saving, but it cools down for episode 2.

The drama feels like its based on a webtoon and has a sort of playful ‘feel’ to it, so to speak. I think what intrigued me the most was the characters of Park Min-Hwan and Jung Soo-Min, they’re so unbearable and annoying but played so well by Lee Yi Kyung and Song Ha-Yoon. I just want to see both characters SUFFER. They got on my nerves and definitely were the reason I was so tuned in, I just wanted to see Kang Ji-Won DESTROY them.

Of course, I also saw how the character didn’t ‘change’ as much which I appreciate because change is not easy, especially for someone like her. I appreciated this detail although it did frustrate me because she didn’t go all out.

We have a total of 16 episodes for this to be fulfilled so there is ample time for this.

Yoo Ji-Hyeok is a bit odd, I don’t know if its Na In Woo’s acting or if the character is genuinely a weird character that somehow seems fixated on Kang Ji-Won. He behaves very oddly; I wonder if its because he might’ve also traveled back in time? maybe that’s why he seems to be so adamant about reminding Kang Ji-Won that she needs to put herself first.

If you guys have read the webtoon your feedback on this exact point is appreciated since I am confused.

It also seems there will either be a love triangle or…. square considering the introduction of Baek Eun-Ho, I feel like I will feel terribly for him throughout this drama.

I also liked the introduction of Yoo Hee-Yeon, she’s a ray of sunshine and the actress playing her is so cute. If the actress playing her plays her cards right, I can see a bright future ahead of her.

Overall, I think its an okay start, did it wow me? No, but I wasn’t expecting it to either.

The drama’s 1st episode did perform well in ratings scoring in the 5% range which is actually very good news for a cable drama airing in Monday-Tuesday time slot. Min Young might do it again and lift this time slot up, its been stagnant for a while.

I think it’ll be one of those relatively ‘easy’ to watch kdramas and I know it’ll find success overseas too.

Will binge watch it once more episodes pile up and if I feel like I have something to say about it, I will write a review as a follow up.

So have you guys seen the premiere episodes of Marry My Husband yet? did you like it or not?
