“The King: Eternal Monarch” Sees Noticeable Decline In Ratings With Its 3rd Episode, What’s Going On?

“The King: Eternal Monarch” has went from getting ratings in the double digits to the single digits with its recent episode.

On April 24, “The King: Eternal Monarch” aired its third episode and the ratings numbers are in and they’re noticeably lower than last week’s episodes.

According to Nielsen Korea, “The King: Eternal Monarch” 3rd episode scored an average 7.8% and 9% nationwide, a noticeable decline from its second episode that scored 8.4% and 11.6%.

“The King: Eternal Monarch” ran into many controversies before and after its premiere, one of the main actress, Jung Eun Chae, was exposed by media outlets for having an extramarital affair with a singer when he was married. Her label released a statement declining to deny or confirm the facts stating it was her personal life while the singer stated through his agency that he never lied to her about being married.

But that’s not the only trouble “The King: Eternal Monarch” ran into. There were also issues with the production crew; netizens noticed that in the introduction to The Korean Royal Palace at the beginning of the drama the design was oddly similar to Japanese Buddhist Temple designs which infuriated them.

The production team has since issued an apology and promised to edit the introduction correctly.

What do you think of this? Do you agree with the ratings numbers?

My Personal Thoughts

7% is kinda… bad!

I’ve seen episode 3 and my review is coming shortly but the episode was boring up until the last 5 minutes.

I think it has to do with the controversies the show ran into as much as expectations. “Mr. Sunshine” was amazing; the first episodes were splendid and done well. On the other hand, you have “The King: Eternal Monarch” moving in a slow pace for its 2nd and 3rd episode. The most crucial time for a drama is being spent on Lee Min Ho’s character bragging about his own parallel world, flirting with Kim Go Eun and getting humiliated and denied over and over again. It can only be fun to watch so many times.

I expect the drama to pick up but “The King: Eternal Monarch,” as I said before, has an uphill battle ahead of it. Its also slightly colliding with “The World Of The Married” in terms of timeslots but the thing is, it’s getting compared to that drama which is not doing it any good.

“The World of the Married” is easily the best drama of 2020 thus far in my opinion and it was clear since the very beginning. I can’t say the same about “The King: Eternal Monarch.”

The reason why I am being this critical is because I expect better from such a huge production, so far, nothing has impressed me. It’s too early to say I am disappointed but honestly, I hope it picks up. It’ll be sad if doesn’t.

  1. I m really excited to see Lee min ho in a new drama. His new drama as a story isn’t sooo bad but I really don’t like the lead actress..her acting is so bad ..i cant stand her… chemistry between them zero..I wonder why the makers chose her.if there was another good actress..then the drama would have been much better.

  2. Lee min ho is perfect as well alk the other actors.. except the lead actress..her acting is horrible…no chemistry between the couple..nothing interesting… whenever also she talks to the media, shes so cold.. she’s not like other actresses who are so amazing and whenever they talk, you feel so good.. if the makers can change her, then the drama would be perfect!

  3. The King has some slow spots…but do you want these two to be sleazy? Just how would it be to date a King…erring on the side of caution?…how do you start a romance in a parallel universe with a King? I think this going quite well from an American female point of view…new to Korean tv & love it except for all the crying…this series is GREAT!
