f(x) is one of the few second generation girl groups that haven’t yet disbanded, they debuted back in 2009.

They are also one of the few girl groups that are recognized overseas, they used to be five members but Sulli left back in 2015 to focus on acting. The girl group now consists of Victoria, Amber, Luna and Krystal.

Their last album as a group was released back on October 27, 2015. “4 Walls” will soon celebrate its 3rd anniversary.

It has been almost 3 years since their last official Korean comeback. The group released a couple of singles every now and then but never a full scale Korean comeback.

Fans have been eagerly waiting to hear the group again and see them on stage together. Many are wondering, where are the members right now? And what have they been up to, today I will be discussing that.

Krystal

She is one of the members who have pursued acting mostly since 2015.

She gained fame by playing the hot-headed Lee Bona in the hit drama “The Heirs” back in 2013. In 2014, she snagged her first leading role in “My Lovely Girl” opposite Rain, but the drama was a commercial failure.

In 2015, Krystal starred alongside actor Seo Jun Young in a 10-minute film entitled, “Listen To My Song” for W Korea’s 10th anniversary.

Krystal was also cast in leading roles in an upcoming Chinese movie, titled “Unexpected Love” along with EXO’s Lay. It had completed filming back in mid-2016 but faced issues because of the THAAD and its release has been delayed for more than 2 years.

Chinese media Sina announced that the movie has overcome the issues and is set to be released in summer 2018; however, it hasn’t been released yet.

It tells the story of a Chinese singer (Lay) and Korean dancer (Krystal), who fall in love despite cultural differences.

In April 1st of that same year it was revealed that she was dating EXO member Kai.

In 2017, she came back with tvN drama “The Bride of Habaek” opposite Shin Se Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk, she took on the second leading role in that drama but received recognition for her good acting and chemistry with Gong Myung.

In the same year she also ended things with EXO’s Kai; their breakup was announced back in June 2017.

In 2017, it was also believed she would be making her solo debut but SM Entertainment denied the rumors. Luna and Amber had previously debuted as solo artists which added to the speculations back then.

In 2017, she starred in the black comedy drama “Prison Life” produced by Reply PD Shin Won Ho. She also received good reviews for her performance.

In an interview in late 2017 she opened up about her group’s hiatus and revealed that its not because SM is not letting them release an album but its due to timing.

She said,

“The timing never worked out.

Either the timing wasn’t right or the circumstances weren’t right. We made a lot of effort. We even had a plan to make a comeback during a certain month, but it fell through. It didn’t work out the way we wanted.”

Krystal was also named ‘Woman of the Year’ by GQ Korea in 2017.

She is currently leading the OCN drama “Player” opposite Song Seung Heon, Lee Si Eon and many others. The drama has been doing very well in ratings breaking OCN records.

Amber

Amber officially debuted as a solo artist, releasing her debut EP, Beautiful, on February 13, 2015. The title track, “Shake That Brass”, featured Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon.

In the same year, f(x) came back with 4 Walls.

In 2016, as a part of SM Station project, Amber’s solo single, “Borders”, was released in March. She participated in composing, lyrics writing and arrangement of the song, it was entirely in English.

In Mid-2016, it was announced that she would be making her acting debut in the Korean remake of the popular American series “Entourage.” She joined Lee Kwang Soo, Seo Kang Joon, Park Jung Min and many others.

In 2016, she also dropped the single “On My Own,” it dropped on numerous music sites on May 18. Amber directly participated in all aspects of the song, including writing the song, its lyrics, and the arrangement, and the song is based on her personal experiences.

In 2016 she also released “Need to Feel Needed,” “Breathe Again,” and “Heartbeat” featuring f(x) member Luna, Ferry Corsten & Kago Pengchi.

In 2017, she made headlines for her worrisome post about her promotions and relationship with SM Entertainment. She wrote,

“I’ve given my everything. I tried to work things out. Whether it be the creative or business, I’ve been doing everything myself for years so I can keep myself afloat. But in the end, I’m continuously neglected, hurt, and taken advantage of. I’ve been patient… the fans have been extremely patient and I can’t take it anymore just sitting around, waiting, being constantly rejected and given false hope. I’m so tired mentally and physically and this is where I draw the line. No more.”

A week later she returned with another post talking about her struggles, she said,

“‘We don’t have time for you.’ Every year, I would stay at home for weeks because nothing was ‘coming in.’ Instead of waiting, for the past 5 years I’ve been writing my own songs, making my own albums, producing, directing, and/or editing my videos, making concepts and styling, writing proposals and presenting marketing plans, and even looking for my own jobs, all so that I could do what I love for my fans. Even after 5 years, I’m given the same answer. They still tell me I’m not good enough. What more do I have to do?”

Victoria was able to establish herself as an actress through various productions in Korean and Chinese movies and dramas such as “Beautiful Secret” (2015), “Ice Fantasy” (2016), “A Life Time Love” (2017), “Moonshine and Valentine” (2018); “My New Sassy Girl” (2016) and “My Best Friend’s Wedding” (2016).

She had started teasing for her solo album since 2017but nothing has been confirmed yet. Whether she’ll be promoting the album in China or in Korea as well is still unknown.
