Singer Kevin Oh has enlisted in active duty.
Kevin Oh’s agency officially announced on January 2nd through their official account, “We would like to inform the fans who cherish and love Kevin Oh about his military enlistment. Kevin Oh has enlisted in the military to broaden his musical activities based in Korea and to establish a stable family life with his wife.”
They continued, “Thanks to Korea, he was able to live and pursue a new musical career. He expressed through our agency that he wants to fulfill his duty of military service and return to share warm music with his fans and many others. Additionally, he hopes that everyone who knows Kevin Oh will stay healthy both physically and mentally. He enlisted in December and completed his basic training.”
Kevin Oh quietly enlisted in the army without prior notice. Regarding this, his agency explained, “Since it is a natural obligation for Korean citizens, we kindly ask for understanding and support from the fans for not announcing his enlistment in advance.”
Lastly, his agency said, “Until the day Kevin Oh completes his military service and returns in good health, we ask for continuous support and love. We, too, will continue to cherish and support the artist so that he can consistently share good music with his fans when he returns from the military. Once again, we ask for the fans’ understanding and generosity.”
Kevin Oh, a Korean-American, graduated with an economics degree from Dartmouth College. He made his official debut as a singer after winning the seventh season of Mnet’s “Superstar K” in 2015. Originally known as a U.S. citizen, it was confirmed by his agency that he holds dual citizenship of South Korea and the United States. With the mindset that military service is a natural obligation for Korean citizens, he decided to give up his U.S. citizenship and enlist in active duty.
Kevin Oh married actress Gong Hyo Jn in October of 2022. Prior to his enlistment, he released his first full-length album “Pieces of _” in November 2023 and held a solo concert, “2022 Kevin Oh Concert Pieces of _,” on December 3rd and 4th at Hyundai Card Understage in Seoul.
