There was controversy over the prices related to singer Kim Jong Kook’s opening of a shopping mall, but it was resolved with an apology, sold-out items, and a full donation.

On the 14th of September, Kim Jong Kook announced through his personal channel community, “I made clothes to reduce the dilemma of buying clothes. They are clothes that I made with my usual sensibility, so they have a comfortable fit. I put a lot of effort into making clothes that I would always wear. They will be sold in limited quantities.”

The shopping mall opened by Kim Jong Kook uploaded sleeveless and short-sleeved t-shirts. There were not many types of products, and they had simple designs with the brand name written on them. Kim Jong Kook also promoted the brand by posting pictures of fellow celebrities wearing his clothes.

However, there was controversy over the prices that were set at around 40,000 won ($34) despite the simple designs. In particular, the part where Kim Jong Kook said in the video, “It’s not expensive,” fueled the price controversy.

In response to the backlash over the pricing, Kim Jong Kook said, “I sincerely want to say that these are not just clothes with words printed on t-shirts. I made them with sincerity and paid a lot of attention to the fabric because I am picky about it when I wear clothes. And they are not functional sportswear but everyday clothes, so I hope there is no misunderstanding.” He also apologized, saying, “Regarding the price, I made a reasonable decision after receiving various inquiries. If the part where I expressed ‘It’s not expensive’ in the video was a misleading expression that was not objectively considered, I apologize. I don’t know much about this field, so I ask for your understanding with an open mind.”

Along with Kim Jong Kook’s apology, the clothes uploaded on the shopping mall were sold out. Kim Jong Kook added, “Thanks to the interest and support of many people, they sold out quickly. Should I just pass by this gratitude? I plan to donate all the profits to meaningful places. I would like to express my gratitude once again to everyone who participated.”
