A Famous Korean BJ Who Had Disappeared From Social Media Revealed To Be In Prison For Several Charges

BJ Ro Bong-soon (real name Kim Bit-na), who was active on internet broadcasting platforms such as Twitch and AfreecaTV, has been reported to be in prison.

Note: BJ means broadcasting jockey

According to the Ilgan Sunday newspaper on the 17th of January, Ro Bong-soon was sentenced to 2 years in prison for charges of aggravated assault and defamation in the first trial held at the Suwon District Court, Seongnam Branch on December 6th of last year.

It was also revealed that she received a sentence of 2 years and 6 months in prison with a 2-year probation for charges of embezzlement and obstruction of official duties.

According to the court’s judgment, Ro Bong-soon dropped wooden planks from the 34th floor of a 36-story officetel in Geumgok-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam, her residential area, in July of last year. Fortunately, no one was injured, but she was charged with aggravated assault.

In March of last year, she reported to emergency services (112) saying, “I’m going to break my house’s windows,” and when the police arrived, she grabbed her cat, which had come out of the house, and repeatedly struck the front door and wall with a hammer, while swearing.

At the time, Ro Bong-soon acted as if she was going to hit and push the police officers at the scene, and was charged with obstruction of official duties. The charges were admitted, and she was sentenced to 1 year and 3 months in prison with a 2-year probation.

Earlier, Ro Bong-soon had not been active on internet broadcasting platforms, as well as on social media, for almost six months, raising curiosity about her whereabouts.  

Meanwhile, Ro Bong-soon’s lawyer submitted an appeal on December 8th, 2023, and the prosecution submitted an appeal on December 12th. The second trial is scheduled to be held at the Suwon District Court in the future.
