“Extraordinary Attorney Woo” has gained massive popularity through word of mouth and has become one of the most unexpected hits of 2022 and when I took a look at it, I could totally understand why.

Here is my review of “Extraordinary Attorney Woo.”

Note: this article is a first-impression review, it doesn’t mean this is the writer’s final thoughts on the drama. This is a spoiler review.

Truth be told, June has been one hell of a month in kdramaland and since I have such a hectic schedule for reviews and recaps, I focused only on what I can, I saw “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” was among the kdramas airing in late June but decided not to check it instantly because it deals with law proceedings and I’ve seen enough of those.

However, I have since seen many people online talk about how unique and heartwarming it is, I had to see it for myself and I agree, its soooooooooo cute, one of the cutest kdramas of 2022 thus far.

“Extraordinary Attorney Woo” tells the story of an attorney named Young Woo who has autism spectrum disorder. Young Woo begins her job at a high end law firm and we follow her journey.

What makes the story so unique is not only the fact that the main character has a disability but its also the fact that its generally a light law drama.

Kdramas about law proceedings usually are heavy and even if they start out light, they usually become heavy. Since we’re talking about a subject as dense as this, it can also become boring with the use of the specific terminology it has. However, “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” approaches the subject sensibly and doesn’t try to overwhelm the audience with law proceedings. It takes things rather slowly but it doesn’t lose its fun angle, in fact, it enhances it as we experience things from her perspective.

I like how the drama doesn’t try so hard to present these unimaginable situations or villains that she must fight or take down too. It takes a very realistic chill approach.

I also like how it approaches the topic of disability and people on the autism spectrum. Its not overly dramatic and doesn’t make light of the situation either. It gives you an insight into all sides who see and deal with it, for good or bad. It also doesn’t demonize parents’ struggles with their kids who are on the autism spectrum either.

On top of all of that, I am in love with the supporting characters, all of them.

I especially like Jun Ho, he’s so chill. He’s not presented as this enigma or out-of-this-world hottie but just a regular hottie who is good at his job and is a chill person. We don’t usually get main male leads who are as chill as his character so its definitely a nice change. I like how sensible and patient he is too. Kang Tae Oh is doing an excellent job with his character.

The other character that I especially like is Kang Ki Yong’s character. Kang Ki Yong is known for taking on lighter roles or roles where he isn’t taking himself too seriously but this time, he plays a charismatic boss. I found him so refreshing in this character.

Park Eun Bin steals the show so effortlessly. It feels like she’s never played any other character in her career but this one. She disappears into her character perfectly and is a treat to watch. She does a great job balancing the character moves and tackles it so properly. It doesn’t come off as too much at any point. The performance is not ‘boastful’ by nature but very calm, but at the same time, you get the message she’s trying to convey. Thats not easy to pull off.

The character Young Woo is also so lovable and innocent you can’t help but fall for her. She’s so cute and you instantly feel for her, you want her to succeed and prove haters wrong.

“Extraordinary Attorney Woo” has been breaking records, the drama has become the most-watched drama in ENA’s history, which is the broadcasting channel of this drama. It also airs on Netflix and has been ranking high despite the stiff competition from releases earlier this month and last month.

I am very intrigued by the drama and can’t wait to see how it plays out. I hope it continues to be this interesting. I am also so happy for the cast because the drama has become a success. They deserve it.

So these are my thoughts on Extraordinary Attorney Woo premiere, so what about you guys? did you like the episodes? let me know what you thought in the comment section below.
