Director Lee Jung Hyo, who directed the Netflix series “Doona!”, expressed his satisfaction with the casting of Suzy and Yang Se Jong.

On the morning of the 18th of October, the production presentation of the Netflix series “Doona!” was held. Suzy, Yang Se Jong, and director Lee Jung Hyo attended the event.

“Doona!” tells the story of a normal college student, Won-jun (played by Yang Se Jong), who meets and gets involved with retired idol Doona (played by Suzy) after leaving behind his glamorous K-pop idol days. The drama follows the perspective of the realistic character Won-jun, while also depicting the loneliness Doona feels in her own world, portraying the process of them understanding and getting closer to each other.

Director Lee Jung Hyo, who directed dramas such as “Crash Landing on You,” “Romance Is a Bonus Book,” “I Need Romance 2012,” “Life on Mars,” and “Good Wife,” took the helm for “Doona!” He enhances the completeness of the drama by adding meticulous and realistic direction to a solid story. On this day, Director Lee Jung Hyo said, “Suzy has never shown any signs of dislike. I thought that Suzy, as an actress, had more heart than what I had imagined. When I thought about casting, Suzy immediately came to mind. I suggested it to Suzy, and she immediately agreed, so I felt good. As we talked to each other, I thought we would do well, and it was great on set as well.”

He continued, “I remembered a drama that Se Jong appeared in before, so I suggested him. When I read the webtoon, I felt that Won-jun was really ordinary and had the purity that this friend had. When I first saw Se Jong, I got that feeling, so I suggested him for the casting, and I was happy that he agreed. We talked a lot while shooting.”

Director Lee Jung Hyo emphasized, “Chemistry between the male and female leads is important in romance dramas. I tried my best to listen to the opinions of the two actors for the sake of chemistry. When doing a romance drama, there are things that come across much stronger on set than what I felt from the script. This is largely due to the chemistry between the two actors. So, we talked a lot on set. I asked for their opinions a lot. As the two of them continued to talk, they became closer, and as Se Jong mentioned, even if I didn’t do anything, their chemistry came alive just by looking at each other. I had a lot of discussions in the beginning for that.”

“Doona!” was released worldwide through Netflix on the 20th.
