Actor Bae In Hyuk revealed his thoughts on acting with Lee Se Young and addressed the dating rumors that have since been debunked.
During an interview held on January 8th in a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul by a media outlet, Bae In Hyuk sat down to discuss his recently concluded drama “The Story Of Park’s Marriage Contract.: He talked about what he learned from Lee Se Young and behind-the-scenes chemistry that led to rumors of a romantic relationship.
Bae In Hyuk said, “First of all, she was great. As you all know, she has great energy. She is my senior and there is an age difference, but she made it easy for me as a junior. She made me feel comfortable and encouraged me to express my opinions. We naturally became friends. Lee Se-young taught me a lot about how to act with other actors. Our job is not something we do alone. It is a collaborative work, so I learned a lot about how to work together. That’s why I thought she was a great senior and had been doing so well. In the early stages, every time I made a move towards Taeha, she would push me away. She kept pushing me away until she started laughing and even got angry, but it didn’t seem like she was doing it on purpose. It just came out naturally. As Taeha, it became natural for me as well. She brought out more than I had imagined through her acting.”
He also revealed why he wanted to work with Lee Se Young, stating, “She has been acting since she was a child actor, so I was curious. I wondered what the difference was and what made her continue her difficult journey for a long time. I was curious about what techniques and ways of communication she had that made it impossible to dislike her. I also wanted to do this job for a long time, so I was curious about whether the child actors were doing it because they wanted to or because their moms made them. I think there’s nothing more impressive than consistency, so I was curious. I never directly asked her about her child acting days.”
He also shared his thoughts on the romance between Taeha and Yeonwoo. Bae In Hyuk said, “Until the middle of the drama, it felt like we were just falling into accidents. It was frustrating. I wondered how long we would continue like this. But I understood that Taeha was experiencing her first love and Yeonwoo is a Confucian scholar in Joseon. But from the moment they confirmed their feelings through physical contact, they both became free characters in that aspect. When taking romantic scenes, we didn’t stick to a specific angle. We filmed it freely. As a result, we didn’t pay much attention to camera angles. We pursued a natural look. Except for the kiss scene on stage after the show, we didn’t have to worry about how to film other scenes.”
The romance chemistry between Lee Se Young and Bae In Hyuk continued even at an awards ceremony, leading to rumors of a romantic relationship. He said, “I didn’t know that there were rumors of a romantic relationship. I saw that the article had a lot of ‘likes’ emoticons attached to it. It was probably the most ‘likes’ I have ever received in my life. I didn’t know about it, but people around me asked if it was true, so I was like, ‘Huh?’ We were still in the middle of the broadcast, and I thought it was just because our chemistry was good. We didn’t mention anything about it to each other.”

When asked about his favorite scene from the drama, Bae In Hyuk said, “In Episode 12, there is a scene where Taeha leans on Yeonwoo and dies in a bamboo field. It was both poignant and memorable because it was so cold. We shot it on top of a mountain, and the wind was blowing fiercely. It felt like I was really going to die, so I was able to express my emotions better. Although the drama goes by quickly and you might not be able to feel it, there are many meaningful, precious, and beautiful lines. One line that comes to mind is ‘Please come back anytime, I will wait for you.’ It felt strange to express that I would wait even though I knew Yeonwoo wouldn’t come back. Another line that I remember is when Yeonwoo came back and said, ‘This is our destiny.'”
