“Flexx Cop” has recently held its press conference, here is what actor Ahn Bo Hyun had to say about his preparations for the role!
“Flexx Cop” features actors Ahn Bo Hyun, Park Ji Hyun, Kang Sang Jun, Kim Shin Bi, and Jung Ga Hee, as well as director Kim Jae Hong. The drama follows the story of a third-generation chaebol who becomes a powerful detective in a “money for money, back for back” flex investigation.
“Flexx Cop” is gaining attention as a new drama from the “SBS Friday-Saturday Universe,” known for its exciting and thrilling stories such as “One Dollar Lawyer,” “Taxi Driver,” and “One the Woman.”
Ahn Bo Hyun, who plays the male lead in the drama, expressed his pressure to continue the legacy of previous male leads Kim Nam Gil, Nam Goong Min, and Lee Je Hoon. He said, “I felt the burden of whether I could continue their fame. I hope to portray a hero that we haven’t seen before, someone who is not only hateful but also lovable. I think there will be a refreshing and fizzy element that sets me apart from other heroes.”
Regarding the praise for his character being relatable, Ahn Bo Hyun said, “I have played a detective role twice before, and the writer seemed to have expectations for me. I saw the first two episodes, and I was very satisfied. The writer said it feels like a ‘life character,’ and I was grateful for being recognized by the writer for the first time.”
Ahn Bo Hyun also expressed his happiness with the lead role, saying, “It was a really happy set. Instead of feeling pressure, there were things that we needed to be careful about. Our drama starts with Lee Soo (played by Ahn Bo Hyun) and moves on to episodes. Since Lee Soo has a high energy level, I tried to maintain that for the overall atmosphere. The staff always greeted us with standing ovations and cheers. The energy gathered in our drama created great synergy.”
Director Kim Jae Hong praised Ahn Bo Hyun’s hero qualities, saying, “He is the best among the actors I have seen. When compared to Kim Nam Gil, Nam Goong Min, and Lee Je Hoon, he is beyond my imagination.” He described Ahn Bo Hyun’s special skills as “warm and rich.”
Ahn Bo Hyun, who gained attention for losing 8 kilograms for his role, mentioned that he also paid attention to his appearance as a third-generation chaebol and parachute detective, Jin Yi Soo. He said, “After losing 8 kilograms from my previous work, both the director and viewers liked it. In this drama, I needed to have a certain agility while portraying both a chaebol and a detective, so I did a lot of aerobic exercises.”
In addition to agility, Ahn Bo Hyun also focused on his hairstyle. He said, “Jin Yi Soo’s hairstyle is a bit unique for an ordinary person. To fix it, I used hairspray and styled it in a half-updo. It was almost like Tang Hoo Roo (a character with stiff hair). I almost gave up on my scalp while filming.”
As for his action scenes, Ahn Bo Hyun said, “I was lucky to work with a martial arts director for the fourth time, who knows me well. He focused on showcasing what I do well and what can be a weapon for me. I hardly used a stunt double, as requested by the director.”
“Flexx Cop” will premiere on January 26 at 10 PM.
