BTS members and the subject of military enlistment has been constantly in the news, and recently, it was revealed that the members have submitted for military postponement, but how?
The eldest member Jin is well over 28 years old. According to the current Korean military law, all able-bodied South Korean men are obliged to serve in the military for 18 to 22 months by the age of 28.
If you recall, previously, BTS received the Hwagwan Order of Culture, equivalent to a 5th-grade order of cultural merit. As a result, this allowed them to postpone their enlistment until the age of 30.
According to Korean news outlets, the members have submitted for postponement. Jin has until December 2022 to promote with is group before he must join the military and serve his country.
While the members themselves never requested or asked for an exemption, the general Korean public seems to be on the side that the boys should be granted an exemption for their contributions to the country.
The Military Manpower Administration has been discussing a bill to incorporate popular cultural singers, however, the review bill was temporarily suspended after the subcommittee of the parliament’s national defense committee failed to make any progress on it’s deliberation.
