“Backstreet Rookie” ratings continue to surprise fans!

On July 3rd, “Backstreet Rookie” aired its 5th episode and according to Nielsen Korea, the ratings noticeably declined from its 4th episode.

According to Nielsen Korea, the 5th episode (part 1 and 2) scored an average of 4.6% and 5.8% nationwide, a decline from last week’s ratings. Last week, “Backstreet Rookie” saw its highest rating to date with 8.3% for its second half of episode 4. This episode scored its lowest average nationwide rating to date in addition to its lowest rating to date for the second half of an episode thus far.

Fans noticed that there seems to be a trend, generally speaking, “Backstreet Rookie” Friday episodes tend to score less than its Saturday episodes.

Despite the ratings, “Backstreet Rookie” is still a massive success with Ji Chang wook and Kim Yoo Jung fans who are enjoying their chemistry and the plot.

Why do you think “Backstreet Rookie” ratings continue to waver like this? Are you currently following the drama?

My Personal Thoughts

Despite its controversial start, “Backstreet Rookie” isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Initially speaking, I was a bit skeptic going in because of the script but it turns out that the drama is a lot more fun than I expected it to be.

So far, “Backstreet Rookie” is fun, I wouldn’t describe it as anything out of this world and I don’t think this is Ji Chang wook or Kim Yoo Jung best project to date, but I like it. My opinion could still change as episodes progress. The 5th episode was nice but not as good as the 4th episode, at least that’s what I thought of it.

The scene with the guy who is clearly appropriating Jamaican culture stereotypes was pretty difficult to get through, I don’t understand why they’re making a Korean actor do this, how does it relate to the plot in any shape or form? Many international fans have been complaining about this but SBS still runs with this character… I just don’t understand why.

  1. I have been watching backstreet rookie ever since the first episode was aired and I must confess that it is a very interesting, funny and sweet drama. The 4th and 5th episode to me are really great also and I see nothing wrong with it. The drama is getting more fun as it progresses and I think the actors are doing a really good job. Everything about the movie is great and I love it. The
addition of the Jamaican man to the drama adds its own taste and flavor to the movie as it portrays another culture which I particularly like. All said this drama is amazing and I love it. Big tumbs up to all the actors participating in this drama. Keep up the good work and I love you all.
