BTS Overtakes Ed Sheeran, Post Malone And Many Others For The Second Spot In The Global Recording Artist Of The Year

Published Categorized as Kpop

BTS is a power to be reckoned with; recent statistics by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) confirms it.

If you’re wondering what does IFPI does exactly, its quite simple. They’re a non-profit organization that represents the music industry worldwide.

On February 26, they released their annual list announcing the top 10 best-selling recording artists, the number one spot went to Drake.

BTS came in second place with their smashing success with two albums in 2018, “Love Yourself: Tear” and “Love Yourself: Answer.”

How did IFPI calculate this and reached this conclusion? Well, according to them, the top 10 list is calculated to “include sales of albums – across digital, CD and vinyl formats; singles, both downloaded and physical; and streams across the calendar year.”

They also explain,

“The chart includes all the music of each artist featured, not just one track or album. It uses album equivalent units to combine measurements of downloads, physical sales and streams.”

Here is the top 10 list:

  1. Drake
    2. BTS
    3. Ed Sheeran
    4. Post Malone
    5. Eminem
    6. Queen
    7. Imagine Dragons
    8. Ariana Grande
    9. Lady Gaga
    10. Bruno Mars

Congratulations to BTS!
