2018 YouTube Rewind is here!
YouTube Rewind is a yearly video that is created by YouTube, according to YouTube it aims to celebrate the videos, people, music and moments that defined 2018.
Kpop took over the world even more in 2018, with many Kpop groups such as BTS and BLACKPINK making and breaking records on Billboard as well as YouTube records.
At one point, BTS’s “IDOL” was the most viewed music YouTube video in the first 24 hours, YouTube confirmed it had garnered 45+ in the first 24 hours.
Initially, “IDOL” accumulated about 56 million views in the first 24 hours but around 10 million views were omitted from the video. Back then YouTube explained,
“To verify that views are real and accurate, YouTube may temporarily slow down, freeze, or adjust the view count, as well as discard low-quality playbacks.”
ARMY didn’t take kindly to that explanation or the omission of views from the video and they weren’t happy about YouTube Rewind as well.
The video included Kpop and played BTS’s “IDOL” without direct mention of the group but the phrase Kpop instead. Fans took to twitter to voice their own opinions about YouTube using BTS’s “IDOL” in 2018 YouTube Rewind.
Here are some of the fandom reactions below:
The fact YouTube didn’t even credit the song to BTS, just called it KPop, eye— #YouTubeRewind

so #youtuberewind really thinks that it’s okay to use BTS and IDOL after deleting 11milion views, froze our views for more than an hour and hiding our REAL views by puting (+45millions) huh! pic.twitter.com/cIpq08riZy

Apparently BTS are nothing but “kpop” artists. Yt divided trending mvs of 2018. They put kpop in a separate category. What was the point?¿ When are they gonna see that BTS is more than “kpop”. BTS have covered almost all genres. The xenophobia is showing. #BTS #YouTubeRewind pic.twitter.com/0SgAYFSds2

What do you think of this?
I don’t want to come off as a rude ARMY but the purpose of streaming IDOL was not to break a simple YouTube record, it was (or at least for me) to be able to hear BTS’s songs on the radio more often, I only heard IDOL once , that’s why we stream and Shazam the songs. It’s hard to hear their songs unless they are completely in English in my country (Waste it on me), we practically have to beg radio channels in order to hear them. Also, it was kind of frustrating when YouTube deleted 11+ million views, and freezing them for a few hours, after all our hard work and trying to follow our streaming rules, we were like what do we do now?? But I don’t blame them we did kind break YouTube, the comment section was all upside down, first time I had seen something like that happen. And I know some ARMYs probably used some bots, I wouldn’t be surprised, I know not all ARMYs are innocent, they should have known better. I just wish YouTube would have acknowledged BTS a little bit better, it was kind of disrespectful. Also did BTS even know their song was gonna be used in the rewind?!
Please say that to the artist who is getting multiples of millions of views right now. She has her management company paying for the views, such as advertisements and mediaplay. Her music video viewers werent deleted but are added by millions. Its been a few days now and shes sitting at 200M+ views. Youtube delete 11.5M views and froze for 11 hours straight on BTS IDOL mv in the 24 hours. Even to this very day, BTS IDOL still gets 1.2M to 2M views deleted everyday.
I wasn’t exactly mad about them putting IDOL in the video, what disturbed me is that they said “KPOP” and only put BTS. I am a pure ARMY but there is more than one group in kpop. When they said kpop, I was ready to hear at least some BLACKPINK, RED VELVET, EXO or any other group that came on top this year but they only played IDOL throughout the whole video. I just thought they should recognize other artist in the Industry and not just one group.
I’m a very devoted Army. And I absolutely, 100 percent agree with this post! Other army’s need to calm down! I’m actually very happy that they included IDOL in the rewind! It’s not all about YouTube views! BTS is not BTS because of YouTube! ITS BECAUSE OF THE BTS TALENT IN MUSIC!!! So tysm for posting this! BTS Army forever! Love ya BTS!
I think that army’s are indeed overreacting a bit. YouTube works like this. The views got deleted because people either
1. Streamed and restreamed again (as in keep on pressing refresh and repeat buttons
2. Kept on repeating the video after a certain mark that they view will be counted.
YouTube isn’t stupid as well, if army’s keep on doing repetitive actions like that, obviously YouTube will delete those views because “people” who delete the views are bots and programmers working in YouTube. Besides that, they could have frozen the “stream count” thing because so many people were streaming and re-streaming so the system crashed, just like what happened to boy with love and Ariana grandes “thank u, next”.
And I agree with the writer of the article, if y’all really love BTS, y’all won’t be so intent on getting more views etc. , but actually listening to their songs because you guys like them for who they are and views and records don’t become a deterrent and it doesn’t matter even if they don’t break a stupid record because deep inside y’all know that they will always be the best to you guys.
I’m an army, and views and records never mattered to me. I love BTS for who they are and not their records or views of their looks but because of their talent. Not the best, but definitely admirable.
Yeah some army’s really gotta chill, BTS are BTS because they’re BTS and because of their talent , not because they won a Grammy or a daesang award, and it’s also not because they’re on the billboard TOP 100 or have the most YouTube views within a certain timeframe.
