Infamous YouTuber Johnny Somali Indicted And Forwarded To The Prosecution On Charges Of Causing Disturbance In Seoul
A U.S. YouTuber, Johnny Somali, has been indicted after causing disturbances at a convenience store and attracting controversy for his behavior at the “Statue of Peace” in Seoul.
On November 11, the Seoul Mapo Police Station announced that Somali was sent to prosecutors on November 6 without detention on charges of obstructing business.
According to the police, on October 17, Somali allegedly disrupted operations at a convenience store in Seoul’s Mapo District. He played loud music, poured water from a cup of instant noodles onto a table, and reportedly cursed at the staff when they tried to intervene. Somali even posted footage of the incident to his YouTube channel, which alerted authorities to investigate and led to his restriction from leaving South Korea.
Previously, Somali faced heavy criticism after he live-streamed himself kissing the “Statue of Peace,” a memorial dedicated to “comfort women.” Additionally, he has been reported to police on allegations involving assault and drug use. Following his controversial actions, a number of other YouTubers and netizens have voiced intentions to confront him, some have been finding him on street and beating him up when confronting him.
Further, on October 31, a young YouTuber was arrested after allegedly assaulting Somali in Seoul’s Songpa District. On November 8, Somali himself called the police in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, claiming someone was pursuing him.
