YG Entertainment has officially transferred the trademark rights for the stage names “G-Dragon” and “GD” to Big Bang member and solo artist G-Dragon (Kwon Ji-yong).

This will allow G-Dragon to have full control over their use in his solo career. The transfer was reportedly done without any compensation.

According to TenAsia’s investigation, YG Entertainment decided to hand over the trademarks to G-Dragon because of his symbolic significance to the company and the inherent identity the name “G-Dragon” holds. As a result, G-Dragon can now freely use these names in his solo activities.

A representative from YG confirmed the transfer, stating, “The trademarks for G-Dragon and GD have been transferred to the artist.” G-Dragon’s new agency, Galaxy Corporation, also confirmed this, noting that he can use the name “G-Dragon” without any issues.

G-Dragon debuted with BIGBANG in 2006, becoming a landmark figure in K-pop history. He has captivated a global fanbase with his solo and group activities, writing and composing numerous hit songs. Beyond music, he has established himself as an icon in fashion and cultural arts.

Following the end of Big Bang’s group activities, G-Dragon is preparing for his solo career. In December 2023, he concluded a 23-year association with YG Entertainment and signed with Galaxy Corporation, planning to make a comeback in the latter half of this year.
