Baseball player Hwang Jae-gyun (KT Wiz) and T-ara singer and actress Jiyeon have been caught up in divorce rumors that didn’t seem to go away despite their agencies’ clarifications!
The situation began on the 25th of June, during the broadcast of a KBO League game between Lotte Giants and Kia Tigers on KNN Power FM Radio and YouTube, remarks about the divorce of the two individuals were made by the commentators.
The video of the two individuals having a private conversation during the commercial break was broadcast live on YouTube. Commentator Lee Gwang-kil said, “Did you know that Hwang Jae-gyun got divorced?” and the caster responded in surprise, “An article came out?”
To this, the commentator said, “I’ll tell you later. I heard it from someone high-ranking.” He then said, “There was a reason he was frustrated during the game. How could he focus when his house is noisy?”
Realizing the situation late, the caster apologized, saying, “What the commentator said was something he heard from someone else and not an official announcement. I’m sorry.” The commentator also tried to cover up the mistake, saying, “(I forgot that it was a live broadcast.) I’m sorry.”
Afterward, the divorce rumors spread quickly through online communities.
In response, a representative from Jiyeon’s former agency denied the rumors through multiple media outlets, stating, “According to our confirmation, the divorce rumors are not true.”
As the controversy escalated, the commentator apologized to Hwang Jae-gyun by phone and clarified the misunderstanding through an online media outlet. KT Wiz, the team that Hwang Jae-gyun belongs to, replied, “The commentator has already explained everything. Regarding the team’s stance, we cannot know about a player’s personal life.”
However, netizens still raise doubts based on various circumstances online.
Firstly, they mention that both individuals’ social media accounts and YouTube channels have been temporarily closed.
On the 20th, Jiyeon announced on her YouTube channel community, “Due to personal circumstances, it will be difficult to upload videos for a while. I ask for the understanding of subscribers. I will come back with a bright appearance.” Hwang Jae-gyun’s Instagram account is also currently set to private.
However, this is believed to be a consequence of the earlier bench-clearing controversy involving Hwang Jae-gyun. But some netizens have noticed other things in addition to that.
Some netizens are pointing out the absence of couple rings in photos of Jiyeon on social media and the fact that there are no photos of the two together on Jiyeon’s birthday on the 7th. Jiyeon used to frequently post photos with her husband after their marriage, communicating with fans, but recently she has only been posting personal photos.
Furthermore, on her birthday on the 7th, she thanked those who wished her a happy birthday on social media and uploaded several photos, but her husband’s presence cannot be found. This is in contrast to last year, when they left many traces of spending time together on her birthday on YouTube and Instagram. In photos that have been uploaded since then, starting from June instead of May 29, it is said that the absence of a wedding ring on her finger adds strength to the rumor.
