A female soprano singer in her 40s, identified as Soprano Lee Sang Eun, was found dead in a restroom before a performance. She passed away at the age of 46.
On the 7th of July, News 1 reported, “Lee Sang Eun was found dead in the restroom of the Kimcheon Cultural & Arts Center, and the police have launched an investigation.”
According to the report, on the evening of the 6th, around 8:23 PM, a staff member at the Kimcheon Cultural & Arts Center in Gyeongsangbuk-do discovered Soprano Lee Sang Eun (46) deceased in the women’s restroom on the 3rd floor and reported it to the police.
Lee Sang Eun was invited as a guest singer for the performance of “Carmina Burana” held at the main auditorium of the Kimcheon Cultural & Arts Center on that day.
A staff member stated to News 1, “Despite the time for Lee Sang Eun to go on stage, she was not in the waiting room, and when we looked for her, we found her collapsed in the restroom.” Lee was transported to a nearby hospital by the emergency medical services (119), but she was already deceased.
Regarding this incident, Yonhap News reported on the 7th, “The police are investigating the exact cause of death, but the likelihood of a criminal connection is low.”
Lee Sang Eun, who was beloved as a talented soprano singer, graduated from Seoul Arts High School and Seoul National University’s College of Music. She also received a master’s degree from Mannes School of Music in New York, USA. She completed professional programs at Mannes School of Music and Manhattan School of Music as well.
