A couple of Newjeans’ fans, Bunnies, has filed a legal complaint against HYBE, Source Music, and two entertainment journalists from Dispatch.

On the 2nd of September, the legal representative for Team Bunnies, the law firm Opes, stated, “We have filed a complaint on behalf of Bunnies with the Seoul Yongsan Police Station, accusing HYBE, Source Music, and Dispatch of violating the Personal Information Protection Act and the Information and Communications Network Act due to information leakage and defamation related to an article.”

The complaint alleges that HYBE, as the parent company of ADOR, illegally collected and leaked personal information about the CEO and artists of its subsidiary, ADOR, and shared this information with third parties. It also criticizes the use of this illegally obtained information in articles that have led to malicious comments about NewJeans, which have severely damaged the group’s reputation.

The situation escalated after some media outlets, including Dispatch, reported on private KakaoTalk conversations between Min Hee-jin, the former CEO of ADOR, an executive at ADOR, and a shaman. Additionally, Dispatch claimed that Min Hee-jin engaged in unethical practices by allegedly “stealing” trainees from Source Music to form NewJeans.

Opes attorney Lee Hyun-gon mentioned that if the leaked KakaoTalk messages were indeed provided by HYBE’s internal team, this would constitute a severe breach of privacy, and writing articles based on this information would be equally illegal.

Team Bunnies also indicated their intention to file additional complaints against those responsible for malicious posts about NewJeans, having already gathered thousands of such instances. They are committed to protecting NewJeans and making the fandom a significant factor for HYBE moving forward.

The story of a part of the fandom suing major corporations has gone viral with mixed opinions, some think its futile while others think its way better than protest buses and wreaths.

Do you think the fans will succeed in their lawsuit?
