Singer Roy Kim is one of the latest names revealed to be involved in Jung Joon Young chatrooms controversy.
On April 4 during a briefing by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency they revealed that the singer has been booked on the charges of violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc. by spreading illegally taken footage.
The police told news outlets that he has been notified and informed that he must return to South Korea immediately to be investigated. He was studying in the U.S.
On the question whether he filmed the spread footage or not, the police says its not been confirmed.
His father professor Kim Hong Taek is known among netizens, he is a respected professor at Hongik University.
If you search the father and the son Naver profiles you will no longer find both their names listed in each other’s profiles. They have been modified.
Professor Kim Hong Taek only has his daughter name listed on his Naver profile, Roy Kim name is gone.
It is suspected that the changes were made due to the huge backlash the singer and his family have received since the controversy.
Netizens have also begun boycotting his father famous Jangsu Makgolli brand, his father used to be the former president of Seoul Takju (the company that produces the Makgolli).

My Personal Thoughts
I understand the decision, I feel conflicted and this only makes more worried.
For now, Roy Kim is considered a suspect, police are planning on investigating him to find out more details and confirm suspicions. I will not talk about Roy Kim specifically here, I will wait for the final outcome before I share my thoughts on him but I want to talk about his father’s decision to exclude him from his Naver profile.
While YG’s decision to cut off Seungri is totally understandable since they’re a business establishment, professor Kim Hong Taek is Roy Kim’s father, nothing will change that.
I understand the business side of this decision because the alcohol brand took a hit following the news; they want to minimize the damage and control it as much as possible.
There could have been a lot that went into making that decision but it also makes me feel sad that a father just basically cut him off from his profile on the biggest search portal in all of South Korea.
As I said before this makes me anxious, because for now we only know that there are suspicions but it makes wonder what his father knows that drove him to make such a drastic decision.
I mean I could be wrong but such a move (in my personal opinion) goes beyond speculations, there could be something even more serious going on. I hope my intuition is wrong.
I read a lot of comments and fans talked about how his father warned him of JJY, guys, please listen to your parents! It doesn’t matter if you’re 10, 20, 30 or 40 just listen to them, they know whats best!
I hope his family won’t be severely affected by this, Roy Kim is a grownup who should be responsible for his own decisions….
