Red Velvet’s Irene has broken her silence in a new letter addressing fans and her controversy.

On January 15, Red Velvet’s Irene published a letter via the fan community Lysn to wish fans a happy new year and to address her attitude controversy which occurred back in October of 2020, back then, a stylist accused her of throwing a tantrum and disrespecting her, as a result, both SM and Irene issued apologies.

Here is Irene’s translated letter:

“Hello. This is Irene.

It’s been snowing a lot these days and got cold too, are you doing well? Its late but I feel nervous greeting all of you through a post.

First, I’d like to apologize for causing so much pain and worry to the many people because I’m lacking.

I started my life as a trainee in 2009 at the age of 19, and have been standing in front of you as Red Velvet’s Irene until now and it has been everything in my life. As I approached an age that I could be seen as both young and old, while living in a small society known as the entertainment world, I wanted to do the best when it came to my work and I thought that achieving this would be the most important task I’ve been given.

I thought that I was getting along with the people around me well in my own way, so I didn’t know my methods of communication or my expressions could become a problem, and I just thought that everyone has a different way of communicating.

Because of what happened, I received lots of worry and reprimands from the people around me as well as the public, and through this I gained the time to quietly reflect on myself.”

She added that she’s realized so many people cared about her,

“Also, I realized there are people around me who cherish me, even if it was undeserved including my members, fans and staff, and I realized that I had been able to promote without any issues because of how they care for me.

Just as one can’t turn back time I am also working hard to not return to the way I used to be.

I realized the weight of my words and actions, and I’ll try to become a more mature person. On top of showing a good side of myself as Red Velvet’s leader and a singer, as well as the person Bae Joo Hyun, I’ll work hard not to disappoint you.

I hope that there will no longer be blame to anyone because of what happened due to my imperfections. Although it’s late, happy new year.”

In related news, the stylist who exposed Irene recently came out with a post asking fans to stop harassing her one last time, more on that here.

Thoughts on her apology?

  1. I’m happy to see Irene stronger, she made mistakes and apologize for her mistakes, everyone makes mistakes sometimes, I love you, Irene, I’ll always support you. Fighting!

  2. Each and every word of her reflects sincerity,I ponder that the people who will still try to harass her are not human at all.
Because if they do so they themselves are breaking the limits of humanity. How can a human not make a mistake…
Try to amend yourselves first before making a debate on others….
