Former idol rapper Choi, who is accused of illegally filming scenes of sexual intercourse with three women, has been sentenced to three years in prison.

On the afternoon of the 29th of May, during the trial held at the Seoul Western District Court’s Criminal Division 4 (Judge Hong Da-sun), the prosecution requested a three-year prison sentence for Choi on charges of violating the Sexual Violence Punishment Act (using cameras to record and distribute).

The prosecution stated, “The defendant repeatedly engaged in illegal filming, showing a significant degree of criminality. The victims have requested severe punishment, which we have taken into account in our sentencing request.”

Choi’s lawyer pleaded for leniency, arguing, “Although his actions were wrong, they occurred while he was in a relationship and he had no intention of distributing the footage externally. The defendant deeply regrets his actions.”

In his final statement, Choi said, “Through this incident, I realized how disgraceful and reckless my actions were. I understand that those around me are also affected, and I sincerely apologize to the victims.”

According to the prosecution, Choi is accused of illegally filming eight instances of victim A’s body parts and sexual intercourse scenes using a silent camera application from July 2022 to May 2023.

Additionally, Choi is accused of filming the back of another woman, B, lying on a bed at a bar in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, in July 2022. There are a total of three identified victims. Choi reportedly used methods such as covering the victims’ eyes or placing the camera at angles that made detection difficult.

The Yongsan Police Station forwarded Choi to the prosecution last September. The Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office indicted Choi without detention in December of the same year. The sentencing hearing for Choi is scheduled for 10 a.m. on the 26th of next month.
