Police have finally given the 1st statement about the ongoing investigation against Former NCT member Taeil (30, Moon Taeil) who has been accused of a sex crime and has subsequently left the group.
On the 29th of August, the Seoul Bangbae Police Station revealed that they received a report regarding Taeil’s alleged sex crime in June and have been investigating since then. The victim is an adult woman, identified as “A,” but specific details regarding the nature of the crime or the time it occurred have not been disclosed.
The revelation that Taeil was accused of this crime in June has left fans in shock. NCT 127, the sub-unit Taeil is part of, released their 6th full-length album “WALK” in July, and Taeil continued to participate in group activities despite the allegations against him. He also attended the group’s 8th-anniversary fan meeting on the 3rd and 4th of the month.
SM Entertainment, Taeil’s agency, confirmed on the 28th that they became aware of the criminal complaint against Taeil related to a sex crime. After recognizing the seriousness of the situation during their fact-checking, they concluded that Taeil could no longer continue his activities with the group and decided on his departure after discussing it with him.
SM Entertainment added that Taeil is currently cooperating fully with the police investigation and promised to provide further updates depending on the progress of the investigation. The agency also apologized for the controversy caused by their artist.
However, despite the brief apology from SM Entertainment, Taeil himself has not issued any public statements of apology or reflection. This has led to an uproar within the NCT fan community, with many fans expressing their disappointment and anger through social media. Some fans have commented on Taeil’s social media, saying things like “Let’s never see each other again” and “I’m so disappointed that I feel ashamed of myself.”
As a result of the scandal, NCT member Jaehyun’s fan signing event has been postponed. Additionally, other NCT members and SM Entertainment have unfollowed Taeil on social media.
