NewJeans wins two awards at the 2022 Asian Artist Awards making history in the process.
NewJeans (Minji, Hani, Daniel, Harin, and Hyein) won the “Rookie Award” and “Performance of the Year” at the 2022 Asian Artist Awards held at Nihongai City Hall in Nagoya, Japan on the 13th. With this, NewJeans has become the fastest girl group to win a Daesang after debut(134 days).
“We are grateful and honoured to receive this award,” NewJeans said after receiving the ‘Rookie Award’. In particular, we would not have been able to stand here without our beloved Bunnies (official fan club name), they said, expressing their gratitude for Bunnies “We were honoured and happy to perform at the 2022 AAA awards ceremony, but we are very grateful to receive the Grand Prize Performance of the Year award following the Rookie of the Year award,” they said in the acceptance speech for the Daesang.
NewJeans performed its debut song “Attention,” which added a dance break, at the awards ceremony. NewJeans, who started the stage with a restrained hip-hop dance, added a disco-style free-spirited dance break in the middle of the stage, creating both a refreshing and retro sensibility.
NewsJeans won three rookie awards this year, following the 2022 THE FACT MUSIC AWARDS and the MMA2022 (Melon Music Awards).
NewJeans, the only K-pop artist to have a song on the New York Times “2022 Best Song,” ranked its debut song “Hype Boy” on the U.S. Billboard charts “Global 200” (147th) and “Global except US” (79th) for 18 consecutive weeks.
