Netizens Debate KBS’s “Music Bank” Decision To Include Tiktok In Its Scoring System, Is It A Good Idea?
KBS’s “Music Bank” has announced its decision to include TikTok in its scoring system and its receiving negative feedback from fans around the world.
On March 2, it was revealed that KBS’s “Music Bank” will be updating its scoring system to include TikTok, from now on, 5% of the social media score will include the platform too.
The calculation goes as follows: 60% digital streaming, 20% number of broadcasts, 10% viewer preference, 5% physical album sales, and 5% social media. The 5% being debated will include views from YouTube and Tiktok.
K-netizens have taken to online communities to discuss their thoughts on the matter, the general opinion seems to be that not everyone uses TikTok, some are also objecting the partnership between TikTok, which is owned by a Chinese company, and KBS. Another popular opinion is about how this will shift the diagram towards dance tracks winning because those are generally what becomes popular on the platform.
There are also some fans who expressed their reservations about the decision but also commented on how 5% isn’t going to change much in the grand scheme of things.
