The arrest warrants for singer Nam Tae Hyun And Seo Min Jae, who are suspected of taking Philopon, were rejected on the 18th. The prosecutors had applied for an arrest warrant a couple of days back as some news outlets reported the two tested positive for Philopon.
Judge Song Kyung-ho of the Seoul Western District Court, in charge of arrest warrants, conducted a pre-trial examination for the two individuals and stated, “It is difficult to see a stable residence and concerns of evidence destruction or flight,” as he rejected the arrest warrants.
Judge Song added, “At the current stage, the arrest appears to be an excessive restriction on the right to defense.”
Nam appeared at the Seoul Western District Court in Mapo-gu at 9:53 am on this day to attend the trial. When asked by reporters whether he admits to the charges, he briefly replied, “I’m sorry.” He did not answer other questions either. Seo admitted to the charges and apologized, saying, “I’m sorry.”
Nam Tae Hyun and Seo Min Jae were previously booked on suspicions of using illegal drugs in August of 2022 after Seo Min Jae took to her Instagram to post a selfie with Nam Tae Hyun and numerous other posts accusing him of using methamphetamine and hitting her. She wrote, “Nam Tae Hyun does philopon (the brand name for methamphetamine in East Asian countries). His syringe is either in my room or in my office cabinet. He also hit me.”
