MBC Files Lawsuit Against The Production Companies Of Kim Tae Ri’s Upcoming Drama “Jeong Nyeon: The Star Is Born,” Why?
Kim Tae Ri‘s upcoming tvN weekend drama “Jeong Nyeon: The Star is Born” is facing a crisis just a month before its premiere!
This comes after the court approved MBC’s request for a provisional seizure against the drama’s production company. In response, the production company for “Jeong Nyeon: The Star is Born” has labeled the move as “malicious sabotage.”
Recently, the production companies Studio N, Management MMM, and NPO Entertainment issued an official statement saying, “’Jeong Nyeon: The Star is Born’ was planned and developed with all costs borne by the production companies, and we have never received any funds from MBC.”
They continued, “Even up until the filming was imminent, despite repeated requests from the production companies, MBC delayed negotiations on production costs, creating a situation where the production companies had no choice but to comply with MBC’s unreasonable conditions. Ultimately, the production companies never reached an agreement on production costs with MBC.”
The production companies also stated, “MBC only suggested ‘if you can go to another channel, do so’ 20 days before filming began, forcing the production companies to endure over a month’s delay and move to another platform.”
They further claimed, “Despite our willingness to cover any costs MBC incurred internally, MBC did not disclose any details about the expenses for a long time and refused to meet with us. Instead, they filed a lawsuit as the broadcast date approached to maliciously damage the project.”
The production companies clarified that the recent provisional seizure by MBC is not a final court decision but a temporary measure based on MBC’s unilateral claims, and it does not affect the broadcast schedule. “Jeong Nyeon: The Star is Born” is set to air on tvN starting October 12 and will also be available on Disney+.
“Jeong Nyeon: The Star is Born” is set in the 1950s, shortly after the Korean War, and follows the journey of the protagonist, Yun Jeong Nyeon, a natural-born sound genius, as she challenges herself to become the greatest national actress. The drama is based on the webtoon of the same name, with Kim Tae Ri starring as Yun Jeong Nyeon, alongside Shin Ye Eun and Ra Mi Ran.
