Man Who Opened Airplane Door Mid-Flight Ordered To Pay Over Half A Million Dollars In Damages
The passenger who made headlines all around the world after opening the door of an Asiana Plane while it was landing has been ordered to pay over 700 million won [over $500,000] as a compensation for the airline.
The Daegu district ordered the 32-year-old man to reimburse the airline the massive amount recently. The amount was decided based on the damage this caused the airline.
The incident took place in May of 2023 when the man opened the flight’s door. The plane had 194 passengers, 12 of which experienced difficulties in breathing and were taken to the hospital due to this.
Lee, the man in question, was arrested and tried for violating the Aviation Security Act.
The sentencing came as a shock because the prosecution requested a six-year sentence but the judge handed him a three-year sentence suspended to five years. Due to this, the prosecution has appealed the case.
