MAMA, Mnet ASIAN MUSIC AWARDS, a music awards ceremony hosted by CJ ENM, will be held in Japan this year. The name will be changed to ‘MAMA Awards’.

CJ ENM announced on August 24 that it will rebrand “MAMA” as “MAMA Awards” and hold it at Kyocera Dome Osaka, Japan, for two days from November 29 to 30.

“MAMA” started as the “Mnet Video Music Awards” in 1999 and has been held overseas since it was transformed into “MAMA” in 2009, including Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, and Vietnam. Last year, it was conducted only in South Korea because of the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kyocera Dome Osaka, the venue for the first award ceremony after rebranding, is an indoor sports stadium that can accommodate up to 40,000 people. CJ ENM aims to create a global award ceremony that can be enjoyed by everyone beyond time and space by conducting live broadcasts through major global digital channels such as YouTube.

The head of CJ ENM’s music content division, Kim Hyun Soo said, “I am confident that ‘MAMA’ has continued to explore new possibilities beyond the boundaries of Asia and has served as an outpost for many K-pop artists to advance to the global stage. This year, we will prove that ‘MAMA Awards’ provides differentiated value and experience to the world.”
