He was sentenced to two years in prison and fined 133 million won (approximately $119,200) for violating the Act on the Control of Narcotics, Etc. He was also immediately taken under custody as the court believed there was a possibility he might flee. The prosecution previously demanded four years in prison for his crimes along with a fine. He appealed the decision and so did the prosecution.

During the hearing on November 18, prosecutors requested a two-year prison sentence and a fine of 126.6 million won (approximately $107,250) for Jung Ilhoon’s marijuana charges.

Jung Ilhoon read the statement he’s prepared in advance in-between tears, he said,

“I am very sorry for my foolish behavior and I am ashamed of myself. The time I was imprisoned in the detention center was a time of intense reflection on the big and small mistakes I made in my life.

I deeply realized how drugs ruined my life and how harmful it is to society. I promise my acquaintances and the honorable judge that from now on, I will never betray the hearts of my beloved family and those who trust me, and I will live a proper honest like. I was really in the wrong, I apologize.”

Jung Ilhoon’s lawyer also stated that it is the first offense for all of the defendants, he also brought up the petitions sent by their family, friends, colleagues, and international fans.

It is said that Jung Ilhoon submitted 87 statements of repentance since the appeal trial began.

The news was originally revealed in late 2020, due to his controversy, he’s left BTOB in December of 2020. He had been serving as a public service worker since May 2020.
