JTBC Admits The CCTV Footage They Released Is Not Of BTS’s Suga, No Apology Offered Yet
After being called out for publishing a false CCTV video of BTS Suga, JTBC has confirmed the suspicions of fans and media outlets.
Previously, On August 7th, JTBC’s “Newsroom” aired a report claiming that Suga had been caught on CCTV driving a personal mobility device while under the influence of alcohol. The footage showed someone resembling Suga riding a scooter on a road in Yongsan District, Seoul.
However, it was later revealed that the person in the video was not Suga and that the individual had been driving in a different direction from where Suga was actually headed, raising concerns over the accuracy of the report.
Following the backlash, JTBC removed or made private all videos of the report from their official channels, including YouTube. The controversial CCTV footage was also replaced with other stock images on the “Newsroom” website.
They also issued a statement saying they were looking into the matter.
On August 15, JTBC said, “JTBC has also reported CCTV footage showing a scooter riding on the road across from Nine One Hannam around the same time the day after Suga was caught. However, after investigating the route and other details, the police confirmed that the person driving the scooter in the video was not Suga.”
However, the statement does not provide an apology for the hate the CCTV footage caused to Suga, ARMYs are still demanding one from the broadcasting station.
Separately, it was reported that on the night of August 6th, Suga had fallen while driving a personal mobility device under the influence of alcohol, resulting in his license being revoked for having a blood alcohol concentration of over 0.08%. Big Hit issued an apology confirming the news and Suga later issued a public apology too, expressing deep regret and taking full responsibility for his actions.
However, due to several inconsistencies in Big Hit’s statement, the agency had to issue a correction and a 2nd apology.
What do you think of JTBC’s statement?
