IU’s agency EDAM Entertainment has issued a new statement addressing the plagiarism lawsuit reports going around for the past two days.

To their SNS, they wrote,

Hello, this is EDAM Entertainment.
We would like to provide additional explanations and our position regarding the notice we posted on the 10th of May.
On the 10th, we first became aware of an anonymous report filed against us through a news article. It took some time to go through the confirmation process and to inquire about the timing of when we can officially access the report and file for information disclosure, so we apologize for not being able to post this statement more promptly.
Based on the facts confirmed so far, the person who filed the report has no rights over the songs that they have raised suspicions about and is a third party with no connection to the original songwriters. Therefore, we suspect the purpose and malice behind their accusation as it targets the vocalist rather than the songwriters, which is inconsistent with their claim of a plagiarism allegation for public interest.
As we continue to gather information about the report, we will prepare evidence with the help of music experts and composers based on the reports we have received from fans for several months and respond firmly to the allegations.
We are also conducting an investigation into the distributor of a spy rumor campaign. We have submitted a lawsuit to the investigative agency through a law firm based on various materials we have collected and are narrowing down the scope of our investigation to track down those who produced and distributed the material.
We are aware that spreading false information is a clear criminal act, and we recognize the recent increase in organized and malicious allegations. We promise to take measures to find the source of such unfounded and unpleasant rumors and ensure that the artists’ reputations are not damaged by them.
We will continue to file lawsuits against various online communities, social media, YouTube channels, and other platforms for indiscriminate defamation, sexual harassment, malicious postings and speculations, spreading false information, invasion of privacy, and other serious levels of malicious postings.
We are not providing notice before filing a lawsuit because if we do so, most malicious postings will be deleted, making it difficult for investigations to proceed. Also, if some malicious commenters are unaware of the filing of the lawsuit, they may write similar comments repeatedly, making it easier to identify their identity and increase the level of punishment. Therefore, we will collect evidence and proceed with the lawsuit before informing them of the result, which will lead to strict punishment for malicious commenters and prevent them from repeating their actions.
