Kpop Idol Holland has been attacked on the streets of Seoul for being gay.
On May 6 KST, Kpop Idol Holland posted to Twitter about his experience going out the day prior in Itaewon. He revealed that he was hit twice in the face by a complete stranger who proceeded to call him ‘dirty gay.’ Holland says the person attacked him unprovoked while he was out with his manager and a friend. Holland also added that he’s reported the hate crime to the police and hopes something would be done about it. Along with his tweets, he attached two photos of himself bruised in the nose from the attack.
He tweeted,
“Last night, I was walking around Itaewon with my manager and a friend. Suddenly, a stranger man approached me and hit me on the face twice, calling me ‘a dirty gay’. Now I have a scar on my face and I’m going to the hospital soon.
I reported to the police and I hope the case is well solved. This should never happen to anybody in this world, no matter who you are. I wish our world is filled with more love and hope rather than hate and violence.”
He tweeted in both English and Korean separately about the incident. He’s garnered a lot of support from fans after what he’s gone through. Many human rights groups have been urging South Korea to enact an anti-discrimination law to protect the LGBTQ+ and minorities.
Holland is known as the first openly gay Kpop idol ever.
