Convicted Sex Offender And Disgraced Ex-Kpop Idol Opens YouTube Channel, Faces Swift Shutdown and Backlash for Trying To Get Sympathy
Former kpop idol who has become a convicted sex offender had his YouTube channel shut down for his past horrible actions!
In the afternoon of the 23rd of August, attempts to access Go Young Wook’s YouTube channel were unsuccessful, a message appears that says, “Sorry, this page is not available. Try searching with a different keyword.”
Earlier, on the 5th, Go Young Wook, through his personal account, explained the reason for starting YouTube, saying, “I lived a shameful life. I feel like I’m growing old miserably while complaining at home, so I started YouTube haphazardly to escape my lethargic daily life.”
Particularly, Go Young Wook wallowed in self-pity by posting videos of his pet dog, saying, “When no one was there, the dogs stayed by my side,” and “A deep-hearted Maltese that plays with its master, who can be described as a social orphan.” After receiving criticism for using the term “social orphan,” he revised the expression.
As the criticism continued, on the 20th, a national petition appeared calling for the halt of Go Young Wook’s YouTube activities. The petitioner at that time criticized, saying, “In traditional mass media, a criminal who would have naturally been disqualified and cleansed would be left to play a greater role in the YouTube world, where they can operate without any restrictions, and where anyone can access the content freely, which is the current situation.”
The petitioner also emphasized, “The National Assembly should now establish the basic qualifications for YouTubers, who have a significant impact on the daily lives of the entire nation, and especially apply restrictions on channels operated by those who are unfit for mass media, such as those convicted of sex crimes, hit-and-run, unlicensed driving, and assault.”
Go Young Wook had also expressed his annoyance at his channel deletion adding,’It seems that my YouTube channel was shut down overnight. I didn’t upload any harmful content, but just because I’m a convicted criminal, can YouTube apply non-existent rules to an individual? I’ve served my punishment by law, but why is it allowed for some and not for others? Is this really fair?’
He continued, ‘I want to thank those who subscribed to my lacking channel, visited, and showed interest! I apologize and feel regretful to those who sent support through email. Although it was a short time, I will never forget the overflowing love you all gave me. Stay healthy!’
Meanwhile, in 2013, Go Young Wook was sentenced to prison for charges of sexual assault and molestation of minors. From July 2010 to December 2012, he was indicted and imprisoned for 2 years and 6 months for sexually assaulting and forcibly molesting three minors four times in his studio and car. He was also sentenced to 5 years of disclosure and notification of personal information and 3 years of electronic location tracking device attachment.
After being released, he attempted a comeback in November 2020 by opening an SNS account, but it was shut down in two days due to a clause prohibiting sex offenders from using it, resulting in a failed comeback attempt. Following this, another attempt to return to the entertainment industry has led to a surge of criticism.
He debuted as a part of the 90s Kpop group Roo’Ra.
