Is Girls’ Generation part of the KWANGYA?

Netizens are curious if Girls’ Generation, who celebrate their 15th anniversary recently, will be a part of the SM Entertainment singers’ own worldview, SMCU “SM Culture Universe” aka the KWANGYA.

On August 5, a Press conference for the group’s comeback was held at InterContinental Seoul COEX Harmony Ballroom in Gangnam-gu, Seoul to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Girls’ Generation’s debut. All the eight members of Girls’ Generation Taeyeon, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, YoonA, and Seohyun attended the conference and SHINee’s Minho, the same agency, was the MC.

This album is the first album released in five years since Girls’ Generation’s sixth full-length album “Holiday Night” released in 2017. Ahead of the comeback, Girls’ Generation released photos and videos of the concept of “Mr. Taxi” and “COSMIC FESTA” one after other. It is being speculated that “Cosmic Festa” has created a future-oriented unique background and atmosphere, and that Girls’ Generation has also entered the “SMCU” worldview.

In response, Taeyeon said,

First of all, all SM singers have a worldview. Girls’ Generation also has a worldview of ‘the goddess of sound.’ Since the agencies between the members are different, there may members who don’t know about this. The youngest member, Seohyun says it’s her first time hearing this. We already have our own worldview and we will continue to create it as its still in development, also, we need to understand it a little bit more.”
