(G)I-DLE’s Soyeon Savagely Responds To Speculations About Contract Renewals And Cube’s Claims She Didn’t Consult Them On Concert Rap
(G)I-DLE’s Soyeon recently addressed the controversy surrounding her “contract termination performance” at a concert, stating that she did not hide it from the company and felt the company’s response was inadequate.
On the 6th of August, Soyeon took to her Instagram story, explaining, “My first concern is always how to entertain people, and my second is how to make my team happier. Sometimes this leads to overly provocative moments or works that don’t receive positive feedback, but I never intentionally lie or do something to hurt others or act against my conscience.”
She continued, “This performance was no exception. I didn’t write lies, nor did I hide it from the company. We rehearsed it multiple times together. Despite working together for over ten years and not harboring negative feelings towards the company based on media reports alone, I still felt the company’s response was lacking.”
Soyeon also expressed her hope that everyone could work together to improve, adding, “I will also try harder so that fans can feel less worried or upset. I hope such uncomfortable feelings can lessen.”
The controversy began during (G)I-DLE’s “2024 (G)I-DLE World Tour [iDOL] in Seoul” concert held on the 3rd and 4th at KSPO DOME. During her solo performance of “Is this bad b****** number?”, Soyeon rapped, “November contract termination, who can stop me?” Despite reassuring fans later by saying, “We’ll do this forever, so don’t worry,” the performance sparked speculation about potential contract issues.
Cube Entertainment clarified on the 5th, stating to News1, “All members are up for contract renewal next year, and the lyrics were part of the stage performance.” However, Cube raised eyebrows when they mentioned to some media outlets that particular Soyeon line was not agreed upon.
What do you think of her response?
