(G)I-DLE Members Open Up About Their Worries During A Year Long Hiatus After Former Member Soojin’s School Violence Controversy

(g)i-dle honestly expressed how they felt when former member soojin left the group.

in mnet’s “prime show,” which aired on march 29th, (g)i-dle appeared and recalled the hiatus until soojin, a member in 2021, withdrew due to suspicion of school violence, before making a comeback with “tomboy.”

leader soyeon said, “in comic books and movies, there is no case where one of the main characters changes or one of the main characters suddenly doesn’t come out,” adding, “i thought it would be hard for the drama to go well if one of the main characters suddenly leaves. I thought it could be difficult for the team to do well again.”

minnie, who was in her hometown of thailand away from the members at the time, said, “it was the hardest time since my debut. I thought, “can I go back to korea?” I was so nervous,” she said. “all I could do was work hard on the upcoming schedule. I was very lonely and tired,” she confessed.

shuhua said, “at that time, I tried hard, such as singing, exercising, and dancing. I was able to learn one by one like a trainee and grow more,” she said. “i wanted to do group activities as soon as possible. I was afraid that the fans would leave,” she recalled.

miyeon also said that she was worried about the fans during her hiatus, and said, “won’t they feel our vacancy? I thought about how to fill the vacancy.”

yuqi said, “there was a burden. I told the company, “i won’t rest,” and lived a busy life. I missed the members. “i haven’t done personal activities for that long since my debut.”

“i have to make it this time,” soyeon said, recalling when she prepared for her comeback with ‘tomboy’. “i thought, ‘i have to write the best song I can.’ ‘whether it’s a good or bad view, they’ll pay attention to us at least once. (g)i-dle debuted in may 2018 and had a hiatus in february 2021 when suspicions were raised that soojin was a perpetrator of school violence. soojin left the team after six months, and (g)i-dle made a comeback with ‘tomboy’ in march of last year. soojin terminated her exclusive contract with her agency in march of last year.
